Freedom Fighters: The Ray has been ordered to series at CW Seed, The CW’s digital channel. The new animated show is based on the superhero character Raymond “Ray” Terrill, who first appeared in DC Comics in Justice League of America #107 (October 1973). The character first appeared in Quality Comics back in September 1940. Freedom Fighters: The Ray marks the first time a gay superhero will lead a showRaymond “Ray” Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice – he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.

Amazon has ordered the first 10-episode season of Tom Clancy’s Jack RyanThe series follows Ryan as he uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the center of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of terrorism that threatens destruction on a global scale. 

Fearless: ITV orders drama. Emma Blunt is a solicitor known for defending lost causes. She’s investigating the killing of a schoolgirl in East Anglia and trying to free the man she thinks was wrongly convicted of the girl’s murder. As she digs ever deeper into the case, she begins to sense powerful forces, in the police and the intelligence services at home and abroad, who want to stop her uncovering the truth.

Netflix has picked up Anne, a reboot of Anne of Green Gables TV series, based on the Lucy Maud Montgomery novel. The eight-episode series is set in Avonlea, Prince Edward Island, Canada, a fictionalized town inspired by Montgomery’s hometown of Cavendish. The series centers on a young orphaned girl in 1890, who, after an abusive childhood spent in orphanages and the homes of strangers, is mistakenly sent to live with an elderly spinster and her aging brother. Over time, 13-year-old Anne will transform their lives and eventually the small town in which they live with her unique spirit, fierce intellect and brilliant imagination.

Friends from College: Netflix orders comedy series. The show centers on a group of friends who went to Harvard together and are now facing down their forties and experiencing a range of success, or lack thereof, both professionally and domestically. With interwoven and oftentimes complicated relationships with one another, the series is a comedic exploration of old friendships, former romantic entanglements and balancing adult life with nostalgia for the past.

Showtime revealed Purity will last for two seasons and a total of 20 episodes. The show is currently in pre-production, with production planned for 2017.Based on the novel by Jonathan Franzen, the drama follows the lives of several characters, including a recent college graduate, an East German dissident, and an investigative journalist. Daniel Craig stars.

Obicera One series sold to HuluObicera One “follows a group of desperate people whose lives become entangled and endangered when they each gain knowledge of a secret project known as Obicera One.”

Mating: Showtime orders comedy pilotMating will “center on a recently divorced guy who married young and now finds himself completely unprepared for the brave new, frank and fluid world of dating and hooking up.”

Singularity: FX orders comedy pilot“Focuses on a time when artificial intelligence has far surpassed human intelligence, and as a result, society has seen significant changes.”

Criminal has received a put pilot commitment from ABC. “…after falling prey to a CIA sting, a fast-talking, hedonistic con man and his ragtag team of criminals must complete an ongoing series of missions to clear their names and steal an unknown number of long-forgotten relics that could change the fate of the world.”

Ms. Pat: FOX commits to comedy pilot. “…tells the story of a most unlikely suburban mom. Her hustle and entrepreneurial spirit were forged on the mean streets of Atlanta, but she now finds herself in conservative middle America alongside her loving husband and two distinct sets of kids raised under very different circumstances.”

CBS buys Twin Legal Drama from Jennifer LopezThe untitled drama “centers on polar-opposite identical twin brothers who duke it out in their personal lives but are at their best teaming up in the courtroom.” 

The Tap has received a pilot order from USA Network. The Tap is set at Yale University circa 1969, during the height of America’s cultural and political revolution -— a time when the campus is being upended by antiwar protests, race riots and the arrival of the first female students. Three students struggle to find their true identities, including the ambitious and self-consciously conservative Jay, who desperately aspires to join the powerful secret society of Skull and Bones; Michelle, a strong-minded feminist who has difficulty finding her community at the predominantly male institution; and Gloria, a student who’d prefer to focus on her education rather than involve herself in racial politics.

A Midsummer’s Nightmare: Lifetime orders psychological pilotThe first season of the anthology series takes on one of Shakespeare’s most popular works – A Midsummer Night’s Dream – transforming it into a modern-day, mind-bending thriller that explores terror, deception and the dark side of love. Told from the perspective of Elena, a young woman reluctantly drawn into a summer getaway-turned-nightmare, A Midsummer’s Nightmare introduces four young lovers who steal off into the woods in pursuit of their romantic desires, but their plans are quickly thwarted when terrifying forces in the deep woods target the stranded group, using their own fantasies and darkest secrets against them. Will Elena and the group rise above their own frailties in order to survive sinister forces? It’s only a matter of time until the faces of love and terror wear the same mask.

CBS has given a pilot-production commitment for an untitled “multi-can/hybrid” comedy series from Sony TV. The comedy centers on Izzy and Chris, two 20-somethings raising their newborn daughter and merging their loud families – one Puerto Rican, one Italian.

Marvel’s Runaways: Hulu orders new series pilot. Every teenager thinks their parents are evil. What if you found out they actually were? “Marvel’s Runaways” is the story of six diverse teenagers who can barely stand each other but who must unite against a common foe–their parents.

Blackmail: Aaron Paul & Sonntag Brothers sell drama to NBCThe project centers on a young married couple who suffer a life-changing accident and decide to get back at the man responsible by threatening to reveal his infidelity to his fiancee. But when things turn out to be more sinister than the couple originally thought, a dark game of cat-and-mouse sets them on the path to knowing what it means to be a real-life power couple.

SMILF: Showtime Orders PilotSMILF will take a raw look at a single, 20-something whose desires for relationships, sex, and a career collide with the realities of young, single motherhood. 

CMT has ordered pilot of His Wives & Daughters pilot. Press materials describe the potential new scripted series as both “soapy” and “comedic.” His Wives & Daughters centers on, “…the eclectic and cunning wives and daughters of larger-than-life country music legend (and infamous womanizer) Eddie Ray Banks”

Game of Thrones‘ George R. R. Martin announced Wild Cards, a sci-fi anthology book series, is in development at Universal Cable Productions. Wild Cards is a series of books, graphic novels, games… but most of all it is a universe, as large and diverse and exciting as the comic book universes of Marvel and DC. The first volume of the Wild Cards series was published in 1986, and was a finalist for that year’s Hugo Award. Which stories will be adapted? Which characters will be featured? Hard to say at this early stage.
